What you Need to Know Before Registering for CIS 113 Online

To Do List for Registered Students. Also please read this whole page thoroughly!

Letter mailed to registered students

To give you a good idea of what to expect in the course, read the following:

bulletIn order to install the software for the course (see To Do List link above), you must use a computer that is running Windows XP or Windows 2000 (not Windows 98). If you do not have access to such a computer, then you must come to campus to complete programming assignments in the open lab.
bulletYou should have received a letter by U.S. mail giving you some preliminary information. A link to the letter is above for your convenience.
bulletExpect to access this online course at least 3 times per week. This makes it important to have Internet access from a computer in your home.
bulletExpect to do more, not less, work than you would in a traditional face to face course. Since you are teaching yourself the material (with the help of me and your classmates), you must take a very active role in the course.
bulletThe first major test and final exam will be conducted on campus at the Campus Assessment Center. You will have approximately a week period during which to take the tests, but you must take them on campus.
bulletYou will still need to read a textbook, and more carefully than in a regular course.
bulletYou will need to install software in order to write, compile, and run the programs that form the basis of this course (See To Do List link above). Also, there is a small program used during the very beginning of the course called Rob the Mechanical Man. You will also use Visual Logic as a planning tool--this was included with your text if you purchased your text at our bookstore. If not you can buy it online.
bulletAlthough you have flexibility about where and when to do the course work, you still need to do it in order to succeed.
bulletThis is not a correspondence course that you complete at your own pace. Like a face to face course, this one has deadlines and activities that are completed during a specified period of time. Be sure you print and read all requirements and deadlines carefully. Keeping up is a must.
bulletI welcome your questions. If there is anything you need to know before deciding to register for the course, or after you have registered, please email me or call. Contact information is on my home page.
