EGL 2430-DL01
If you're looking for an excellent and fun, exciting, "out-of-this-world" online 2000-level literature class, check out my
EGL2430: Survey of Science Fiction Literature class.

  •   Dream of soaring through spacing and exploring the stars?

  •   Want to travel back in time to see what “really” happened?

  •   Have a vision of what the future will be like?

  •   Ever ask yourself, “What if?”

In EGL 2430, we will discuss a variety of science fiction literature, primarily in print, including short stories and novels, looking at space travel, time travel, alien encounters, robot stories, and more. We will discuss the purpose and function of this literature. We will also consider, to a degree, fantasy literature (and science fiction as a form of fantasy) and the mythology behind some of the science fiction.

I will consider Honors Contracts!

EGL 2230-LE01
We will examine a variety of children's literature, classic and contemporary. We will also discuss the genres  of children's literature, including fantasy, science fiction, history, biography, picture books, historical fiction, and realistic contemporary fiction. Students will learn to evaluate children's literature using relevant literary criteria and consider some of the theoretical issues in the discipline. For more information about this course, click on
EGL2230: Children's Literature Syllabus to download a copy of the course syllabus.

EGL 2230 will fulfill the EDCI 443 requirement for Elementary Education majors at UMCP. It will NOT fulfill the required EDCI 443A for Early Childhood Education. For this program, it will transfer as an elective only.
