Prior to the beginning of the fall 2010 semester, on or about August 23, students registered for this course will be able to access course information via Blackboard. If you have questions about the course prior to that, contact me via e-mail, at goldberj@pgcc.edu, or by telephone, at 301-322-0566.

You will find the course syllabus, attendance and grading policies, and other useful information on the course web site, located on Blackboard, the college's Distance Learning access point.

EGL 1020: Writing about Literature is a composition II course (second-semester writing course). Its main focus is writing, and it uses literature as the impetus for writing. You will read, analyze, discuss, and write about literature, including short fiction, poems, and plays. You will learn to construct appropriate thesis statements (these will deal with themes and aspects of specific works of literature). You will learn to integrate literary quotes into your essays. You will learn to integrate secondary sources into your writing, through a research-supported essay.

While some of the early essays might allow for you to include personal experience as a way to talk about the literature, these essays are not personal experience essays. While the course will build on the concepts you learned in EGL 1010 (thesis statements, topic sentences, organization, coherence, unity), the essays will not be the same type of essays.

To access Blackboard, you will need to log in with your Owl Link user name and password.
