Mission Statement:

The mission of the early childhood education department is to provide effective professional career preparation in the field of early childhood education.  To that end, the department offers three options: a certificate program consisting of early childhood education courses only to prepare senior staff;  an A.A.S. degree program to prepare center directors;  and a teacher preparation program option to enable students to transfer and prepare to teach children at the Nursery through Grade Three level in the public schools.  Beginning in fall, 2004, a new certificate program in early childhood special education will be offered, also.  Department courses are designed to give students practical skills for work with children as well as a strong theoretical foundation for future study.
