Early Childhood Education STUDENT CLUB Return to the Early Childhood Home Page |
| The early childhood education student club is open to
all enrolled ECE students, as well as others interested in joining the program or studying related fields.
Students plan a variety of service and enrichment activities.
The club offers professional development opportunities for students. These have included sponsoring a session on ways to work with children with special needs, presented by Dr. Paul Hahn, Director of the nationally renowned Children's Developmental Clinic at Prince George's Community College, and a conference on language enrichment, featuring presentations from the Smithsonian Museum of African Art. Service activities have included collecting toys for the Children's Developmental Clinic, holding a children's book drive for a local women's and children's shelter, and collecting school supplies for the program's Sister School in Uganda. The club is also arranging a pen pal program so that children in a Prince George's County elementary school can correspond with children at the school in Uganda. In addition, we are planning a children's art show for Spring 2004, to showcase art from a local elementary school and illustrate ways art experiences help foster skills across the curriculum. Each fall, the club organizes a meet and
greet session for current and prospective students, faculty, and
college staff involved with the program to meet each other. The club is a great way to meet
other students and grow professionally as an early childhood educator.
Dr. Teresa Bridger, 301-322-0540 is the faculty advisor, and student officers provide leadership for
many activities. |
