Early Childhood Education Option

Curriculum 215

Return to the Early Childhood Home Page

Students who do not wish to direct an early childhood development/child care center, and who do want to transfer to a college other than Sojourner-Douglass to prepare for public school teaching, should consider this option, Curriculum 215.  Academically, this is a very demanding program, with limited career options until students reach the baccalaureate degree.  Students should consider this option only if they have a GPA of 3.0 or higher in the following courses, which should be taken at the beginning of the program.

Take the following courses first:

___ECE 105, Principles and Practices in Early Childhood Education

___ECE 151, Child Growth and Development

___ECE 156, Introduction to Early Childhood Special Education

___ECE 257, Curriculum Development in Early Childhood Education

Students interested in Curriculum 215 should take EGL 101 and MAT 105 after they complete the initial four early childhood education courses above.  Students earning a GPA of 2.75 or above in EGL 101 and MAT 105 have a good indication that they may succeed in curriculum 215.  Courses in this program have a good track record of transfer, but individual colleges make their own choices about course acceptance.  Therefore, students should contact the four-year college of their choice early in their programs.

In addition to the courses listed above, the following are required for this option:

Early Childhood Education Courses:

___ECE 170, Multicultural Education in the Preschool Classroom

___ECE 281, Instructional Technology in Early Childhood Education, or CIS 101, Computer Literacy (ECE 281 recommended)

General Education Courses:

___EGL 102, Writing About Literature
