Autoformat – a method of formatting a document using a default
setting within Microsoft Word to check for elements including font size,
indentation, hyphenation, and flow
AutoMark – automatically labels (or marks) all instances of an
entry to be placed in the index
Body text style – a format for a block of text
included in the default setting unless otherwise altered
Bookmark – a means of saving the location of information for
later use
Bulleted list –
a group of information divided by little pictures/symbols called bullets
Bullets and numbering command – found in the Format menu, used to
create bulleted and numbered lists, and outlines
Cell – one individual section of a table that contains data
Character style – changes the formatting of text you
select in terms of size, font, and style
Column – one vertical group of cells in a table
Footer – identifying label printed on the bottom of each
page of a document
Format style command – allows you to select or customize a
style of formatting for a document
Go to command – allows you to move to the top of
any desired page
Header – identifying label printed on the top of each
page of a document
Index – an alphabetical list of key terms or ideas placed at the
end of a document for easy reference
Index and tables command – used to create a table of contents
Insert page numbers command – allows you to add page numbers to a
document
Insert table command – allows you to add a table with a
customized number of rows and columns
Leader character – dots or hyphens used to connect
points of information, such as in a table of contents
Mark index entry – a function that allows you to
assign placement of text from a document into the index
Microsoft Word – the program you are learning to use
Normal style – the default formatting settings
assigned to a new document unless otherwise specified
Numbered list –
a group of information divided or ranked by letters or numerals
Outline – an
organized summary list of objectives, goals, or points of information
Page numbers – a way or organizing pages
sequentially
Paragraph style – changes the formatting of a
paragraph you select in terms of its flow, spacing, indents/tabs, alignment,
borders, and shading
Row – one horizontal group of cells in a table
Section – a means of dividing a document into independently
formatted parts
Style – the ability to create a uniform format for a document
Table – a grid of cells used to display information in rows and
columns
Table of contents – lists the topics covered in a document in order of appearance, can
also include the location (via page number) within the document
