As the newly appointed liaison for adjunct faculty, I want to let you know about some of the initiatives I’m working to implement with Alan Mickelson, director of Professional Development and Training, from now through the fall semester. The position was planned and developed through the collaboration of the vice president for Instruction, Dr. Vera Zdravkovich, and the Adjunct Liaison Subcommittee of the Faculty Senate, chaired by Professor Ray Harris.  

Here are the main tasks: 

• Assist with planning the Adjunct Faculty Spring Workshop.
• Publish an adjunct newsletter at least twice a year.
• Encourage adjuncts to write for the Instructional Forum.
• Develop an information flyer or brochure that answers frequently asked questions.
• Promote ongoing professional development activities, such as computer training seminars.
• Encourage increased use of GroupWise.
• Compile a comprehensive adjunct faculty contact list. 

The overall goal is to assist adjuncts in becoming more integrated into the college culture through enhanced communication among adjuncts and between adjuncts and the larger college community. Please contact me if you have any suggestions that may affect the success of these activities.
