HONORS ACADEMY


WHAT IS THE HONORS ACADEMY?
The Honors Academy is designed for academically outstanding students who are interested in a rigorous program of academic excellence, intellectual development, leadership and community service.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF ACADEMY MEMBERSHIP?
Dual Admission

Honors Academy scholars may hold dual admission in Prince George's Community College and a participating four-year college or university. Currently, Honors Academy students may choose dual admission with American University, Catholic University, Howard University, Goucher College, St. Mary's College, University of Maryland University College or Washington College, and the University of Maryland College Park. The number of participating colleges may increase. Upon graduation from Prince George's Community College, the Honors Academy scholar will receive Honors Academy recognition and a seamless transfer into one of the partnering four-year colleges or universities. An Honors Academy scholar also has the option of applying for transfer to any college or university that is not part of the dual admission agreement.

Financial Aid

An Honors Academy scholar receives financial support from Prince George's Community College as long as he or she satisfies the requirements of the Academy and maintains his/her eligibility. Upon graduation from Prince George's Community College, the Honors Academy scholar will receive financial support from the partnering four-year college or university.

WHAT ARE THE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS?
a currently enrolled student must:
- have a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher, based upon at least 12 college credits
- have at least 6 out of the 12 credits in general education courses
- be currently enrolled in or eligible for admission into the Honors Program
- have received a grade of B or better in EGL 101

an incoming student must:
-have applied for admission to Prince George's CC
-have a 3.50 minimum cumulative high school GPA AND a combined verbal, writing
 and math 1550 SAT score, or
-have a 3.25 minimum cumulative high school GPA AND a combined verbal, writing
 and math 1650 SAT score, or
-be eligible for admission into the Honors Program

WHAT ARE THE OBLIGATIONS OF AN HONORS ACADEMY SCHOLAR?
- perform 15 hours of community service each semester
- take on a leadership role in the Honors Society
- meet regularly with the Honors Academy advisor
-determine a timetable for completion of their AA or AS degree
-complete a minimum of 7 Honors courses, one of which must be an Honors Colloquium.

WHAT IS THE DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS?
The deadline for application to the Honors Academy for each Fall Semester is the previous June 1.
