About Radiography

Profession Overview

Radiographers use x-ray equipment and specialized computer equipment to produce images of the human body. The images produced by the radiographer are used in the diagnosis and treatment of patient disease. Some radiographers specialize in specific modalities within the field of medical imaging, such as mammography, computed tomography (CT), or magnetic resonance imaging. They work closely with radiologists, the physicians who interpret medical images, as well as other health care professionals.

A career in radiography can lead in many directions. Employment opportunities exist in many health care settings: hospitals, outpatient imaging facilities, and physician offices. Career paths in management, education, and sales also exist.
